Do you remember how marvelous that first plane ride was? Hypnotized by the planes loud engine, speeding off the runway and then above the clouds. Thinking to yourself how tiny the houses looked as they faded away. Now… you dread it. The honeymoon phase is over and you grudgingly get through security while hoping your plane isn’t delayed, and that you can sleep through most of the trip.
I want to show you that you can absolutely fall in love with flying all over again and actually look forward to the journey as well as your destination.
Read a Book
Skip the plane wifi and dive in to that new novel you’ve been putting off. I recommend purchasing an E-reader because it’s light compact, and you can care around multiple novels in it.
Stretch before Boarding
You risk people staring at you, but you’ll feel great, so who cares? Utilize the airport benches or even your bag to do some leg, arm and neck stretches. If you have time before you fly, yoga is also a great idea to get your blood flowing and mind at ease. Here is a short yoga video you can try at home (or the airport) before your flight!
Catch up on Emails
Counteracting what I said above about skipping the wifi, it might actually be helpful. If you’re looking to use your travel time to be productive and catch up on emails and work from your laptop or tablet. Time will fly by, and you will actually feel more accomplished and ready to relax once you arrive.
Shower before your flight, especially if it’s a long haul. For your sake…. and for your neighbors sake. You’ll feel a lot better sitting in one spot for hours if you feel fresh and clean. I always bring wet wipes to sanitize the surfaces around me, including my seat. Pack a toothbrush, gum, maybe some face cream and especially deodorant to freshen up on your bathroom breaks.
Nutrition, nutrition, nutrition!
Pack a reusable water bottle to fill after you get through security to keep yourself hydrated throughout your flight. Not only are you helping reduce single use plastic waste, but you’ll save money too. Try and skip the temptation to grab junkfood to munch on and either pack your own food or choose nutritional snackfood like nuts or fruit. Keep alcohol at an absolute minimum, you want you feel your best and rejuvenated when you get to your destination, not groggy and nauseated.

- Notepad and Pen for Doodles and Notes
- Wet Wipes
- Personal Hygiene items
- Peppermint oil roller for Headaches and Stiff Muscles
Lastly… Just Enjoy the Journey
Sit back and enjoy the time to disconnect, relax, and dream about your upcoming adventure, or the one you are coming back from.
